After purchasing a new swimming pool heat pump, a lot of our customers have questions regarding maintenance, service, etc. Another common question is what is the best way to get technical support for the heat pump, should something happen to it. Valid question, you want to make sure to protect your investment and be able to get help when needed. So on todays article we will discuss different options available to you.
Installers
For existing units that need service, the first point of contact should be the person or company that installed the unit. They should be able to come to the location where the heat pump is installed and run diagnoses to determine nature of the problem and what the next step should be. Most installers should be able to correct plumbing or minor electrical errors. For heat pumps needing warranty service or parts, you should contact your pool heat pump professional. Remember always use a licensed installer (plumber and electrician) to avoid voiding your warranty coverage.
Pool Heat Pump Professionals
A pool heat pump professional is the factory authorized servicing dealer. This heat pump professional may be a provider of warranty service only, or may also be a retailer of pool heat pumps. Because they are authorized by the manufacturer, warranty replacement parts and service is usually covered if you are still under warranty. My AquaCal 145AHDSBPB reads a temperature of 70 when it is actually 87. This is consistent up and down the scale, off by 17. It otherwise works fine. I am thinking a temperature sensor issue. I have 4 buttons on my panel. What model Temp Switch do I need, 0275, 0393, something else, or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Your unit is probably displaying OtA, which stands for “Over Temperature Alarm”. The heat pump thinks the water temperature is above 110 degrees. More than likely your water temp sensor needs to be replaced.

Hope you are doing well. If your TC1000 Tropicool has a 4 button control panel, you need the ECS0275 water temp sensor. If you have 5 buttons, then you need the ECS0393.

Hi Philip,
If your heat pump is displaying 120 degf, it is probably a bad water temp sensor. Typically you will see an OtA error (Over Temp Alarm), or a High Water Temp error if the water temp gets higher than 110 degf. Are you seeing the 120 degf temp on the heat pump or an external controller, like a Jandy AquaLink or Pentair EasyTouch?

My Aquacal heat pump pool heater can be set for pool or spa. How do I change the valves to just heat the spa?

Your AquaCal heat pump has pool and spa settings for convenience, so you can preset the spa and pool desired temperatures. To turn the valves and just heat the spa, pools will either have manual valves or automated valves using actuators. Actuators are controlled using an automation system like a Jandy AquaLink or Pentair EasyTouch. If you have any questions, please call us at 727-823-5642.

HAVE LEISURE TEMP MODEL LT0600AHDSBNA. THE FAN DOESN’T START, BUT IF I SPIN IT IT RUNS WELL. DOES IT NEED A STARTING CAPACITOR. IF SO CAN I INSTALL IT AND WHAT IS THE SIZE AND APPROX. COST.

It does sound like the unit has a weak fan capacitor. The part number is ECS0044 (5 microfarads). Contact a local dealer or online dealer to purchase the part. It is fairly easy to replace. If you have any questions, please call us at 727-823-5642.

Aquacal pool heater reading FS and fan motor not spinning.
Hi Michael,
If the heat pump compressor turns on and the fan is not spinning the unit will show FS (defrost code) because the refrigerant lines will start icing up. If the fan is not spinning it could be a fan capacitor, fan relay, micro-processor board, or fan motor. Please call us at 727-823-5642 if you need assistance.
